Rolling Grille Repair in Lehighton

When a rolling grille sticks halfway, drags in its guides or won't lock at closing time, we come to your facility, find the cause and fix what can be fixed. If a curtain or barrel is past saving, we tell you why and show you what we saw.

Grilles that open, close and lock like they're supposed to

A rolling grille isn't a solid overhead door. It locks up a storefront, receiving area, parts cage or open dock bay while letting light and air pass through. That open curtain of linked rods or slats is also its weak point. One knock from a pallet jack can bend a few links, and a bent spot then drags each time the grille goes up.

Most of these problems can be repaired. Bent slats come out one at a time, guides get straightened or re-anchored, and spring tension gets reset, so that's where we begin. If the barrel is cracked, the original springs are worn out or corrosion covers most of the curtain, we explain why a new grille will cost less over the next few years than hunting down parts.

What our rolling grille work covers

Curtain and slat repair
We swap out bent, cracked or separated links and rods in steel or aluminum curtains, matching the pattern you already have. Only the damaged section comes out.
Guide and track correction
Guides knocked out of plumb by forklifts or carts are straightened, re-anchored or swapped for new ones. We check that the curtain rides centered so the end locks stop wearing.
Spring and barrel service
We adjust torsion spring tension so the grille lifts evenly and stays where you leave it. We also inspect the barrel, bearings and brackets for wear before they fail.
Bottom bar and locks
A bent bottom bar or misaligned slide lock leaves the opening unsecured overnight. We realign the bar, service the locks and make sure the grille seats fully closed.
Motor and manual operators
We troubleshoot motorized grilles that hesitate or reverse, and service hand crank and chain hoist units that have gotten stiff.

Warning signs on a rolling grille

  • It hangs up or jolts on the way

When the curtain sticks at the same point every time, a bent link or a struck guide is the likely cause. Pushing it past that point only spreads the damage.

  • It slides down or lifts hard

A grille that won't hold open, or that takes real muscle to raise, has its spring tension out of adjustment. That puts anyone standing under it at risk.

  • Scraping or grinding noise

Metal rubbing in the guides or a dry squeak from the barrel tells you parts are wearing out faster than normal.

  • Bottom bar and lock don't line up

When the slide lock won't engage the bottom bar, the opening sits unsecured all night. Usually it traces back to a minor bump from a cart or pallet jack that nobody mentioned.

  • Rust at the base and in the guides

Salt that trucks carry in during a Pennsylvania winter builds up where the guides meet the floor. Found early, the rusted parts can be cleaned or replaced before the rest of the curtain suffers.

What affects the cost of rolling grille repair

Every grille is a little different, so we price the job after we see it. You get a written breakdown of parts and labor before any work begins. Here is what usually moves the number.

How much of the curtain is damaged

Swapping a few links is a small job. Large bent or corroded sections take more material and more time to rebuild.

Size and mounting height

Wide or tall openings use heavier curtains and springs, and high mounts may need a lift to reach the barrel safely.

Spring and barrel condition

Retensioning existing springs costs far less than new springs or a new barrel.

Parts availability

Older or discontinued grille designs can require sourcing matching components, which affects both price and timing.

Manual or motorized

A motor operator adds electrical and control troubleshooting to the job if it is part of the problem.

How a grille repair visit goes

  1. 1

    Start with a phone call

Give us a quick rundown of the symptoms, which opening it is and the hours when that area is quietest. We plan the visit around your receiving schedule or store hours.

  2. 2

    We inspect the whole grille

We run it through a full cycle, then check the curtain, guides, barrel, springs, bottom bar and locks. We take photos of what we find so you see the same thing we do.

  3. 3

    You get a clear recommendation

We explain what is worn, what is damaged and what is fine. You hear the repair option first, and if replacement makes more sense, we say so and explain why.

  4. 4

    Repair, test and cleanup

We make the repair, cycle the grille several times, confirm it locks properly and clear away old parts and debris before we leave.

Rolling grille questions we hear often

Can you fix just the bent part of my grille?

In most cases, yes. Rolling grille curtains are built from interlocking links and rods, so we can remove the damaged section and fit matching pieces. You do not need a full new curtain because one area took a hit.

When does replacing the grille make more sense?

Replacement is usually the better choice when the barrel is cracked or bent, when corrosion runs through much of the curtain, or when parts for an older design are no longer available. We walk you through the reasoning and the photos so the decision is yours.

Is it safe to keep using a grille that drops on its own?

We would not recommend it. A grille that drifts down has lost spring balance and can come down on a person or a cart. Leave it fully closed or fully supported and get it looked at.

Will the repair interrupt our operations?

We schedule around your busy hours and work one opening at a time. Most adjustments and partial curtain repairs are done during a single visit, so the area is back in use the same day we finish.

Do you work on grilles inside the warehouse as well as storefronts?

Yes. We service grilles on retail fronts, interior cages, parts rooms and dock openings. If an overhead door or dock leveler at the same bay needs attention, we can look at it on the same visit.
